What is Unfolding Equity?+
A grant-to-filing equity compliance platform for small US public companies: cap-table reconciliation, a grant approval workflow, Section 16 / Form 4 XML generation, ASC 718 expense, tax schedules, and an audit-ready evidence package — in one system.
Who is it for?+
Principal Accounting Officers, CFOs, controllers, general counsel, corporate secretaries, and stock plan administrators at $50M–$500M US public companies on NYSE American, Nasdaq, or OTC.
What's included in the free trial?+
Everything, free for 3 months — every feature, no credit card required. When it ends you pick monthly or annual billing, or your workspace becomes read-only until you do. Nothing is deleted.
Do you store SSNs?+
No. We never store full Social Security Numbers or Tax Identification Numbers. We reference only the last four digits where a tax form legally requires it.
Can I export my data?+
Yes. A GDPR-compliant data export — one JSON file per table in a ZIP — is always available, including during read-only mode. You own your data.
Do you offer SSO?+
Multi-factor authentication (TOTP) is supported for every workspace. SAML single sign-on is on the roadmap — email us if it's a requirement for your team.
How is this different from Carta?+
Carta is a cap-table and fund-administration platform aimed largely at private, venture-backed companies. We are built specifically for the SEC-reporting workflow of small public companies — Section 16, Form 4 XML, ASC 718, and the audit evidence package — priced for a lean team.
How is this different from Shareworks / EquatePlus?+
Those are enterprise stock-plan administration suites priced and scoped for large issuers with dedicated equity teams. We give a one- or two-person team the compliance workflow and SEC outputs without the six-figure contract or the implementation project.
Do you file Form 4 for me?+
No. We generate audit-ready Form 4 XML validated against the official SEC ownership schema. You and your counsel review and file it on EDGAR. We are a compliance-support tool, not a filing agent.
Do you give tax advice?+
No. We generate tax schedules (W-2 Code V, Form 3921, 1099-NEC, §83(b) tracking, RSU settlements) for your tax advisor and payroll provider to review. We are not a substitute for a tax professional.
What happens at the end of my trial?+
Your workspace switches to read-only. You keep full visibility of your data and can subscribe at any time to restore write access. Nothing is deleted and no card is charged automatically.
How do I cancel?+
From Settings → Billing, in a couple of clicks, no questions asked. You keep access through the end of your current billing period, and you can export your data at any time.
Is my data isolated from other customers?+
Yes. Tenant isolation is enforced in the database itself via PostgreSQL row-level security with SECURITY DEFINER helpers — not just in the application layer.
Who built it?+
A US CPA who serves as Principal Accounting Officer at an NYSE-listed company, with 28 consecutive on-time SEC filings — building the tool he wanted himself.
